Trendspotting: Forward to Fall

Hi guys! Whilst i’ve been working away these past couple of weeks, i’ve been noticing that some interior stores have started to release their Fall collections. Autumn is my favourite season; warm tones, blankets, pumpkins and spooks. What more could a girl want! If you’re like me and you’re over Summer then lets have a look at what i’ve learnt.

Where the wild things are…

Out go the fresh blooms from SS20 and in come the dried floral arrangements that are 100% less maintenance but still just as beautiful. Pampas grass, rabbit tail, thistles and more can all be placed as a bouquet centrepiece for your Fall gatherings. They can accent a rustic living room giving it another element of the earth. If you’re all about the new Scandi neutral trend then a tall pampas grass bunch in the bedroom can give a laid back look. Everything down to dried eucalyptus in the bathroom for that spa-like feeling. This trend is set to be BIG and i’m here for it.

Rust a little bit…

I mean you could say this is an obvious colour choice and you would probably be right but it wouldn’t be Autumn without it. This time around it feels fresh and modern. Taking terracotta, paprika and burnt umber to add to the usual rusted reds. These hues are no longer as bright as they once were, they’re being chosen in smoked hues for a paired back alternative. Anything from accessories to paints, be bold with these choices if you fancy! It will last you a good season (or two). The norm when we see an Autumnal red in the mix is to add oranges, yellows and neutrals. Yes to all of those! However, you could take it into 2020 and pair it with rich plums, dark olives, perfect peaches and even the right shade of blue. It’s a lot more versatile than what we see represented in the usual holiday decorations and it should be celebrated in the right way!

The reclaimed and rustic vibe has been around during the summer months and it’s definitely sticking around for Autumn. Everything from unique reclaimed wood furniture to ye olde looking art. Think farmhouse chic styled with a well traveled collection. You’ll be sure to see; galvanised metal decor, waney oak benches, distressed leather accents and cosy re-worked blankets. It has a nod to sustainability and if you’re like me, who loves a DIY, you’re in luck. For this trend, one mans trash is definitely another mans treasure. If you don’t fancy buying something that ‘looks’ reclaimed you can always head to a second-hand shop or two to find those little gems for your home. You’ll still see the simple line art thats HUGE right now but if you fancy looking at something new on the walls, add texture and life (literally). Using dried botanics with torn up papers is pretty much the vibe and if thats not for you, try a textured plaster canvas (I made one a while back and I love it!).
